NordicFuzzCon 2024 – First Timer Thoughts

I attended NordicFuzzCon for the first time in 2024. This was the only convention I attended that year because there were a lot of social clashes with the UK conventions for me this year.

NFC is really reasonably priced too and depending on your spending habits it can work out cheaper than attending a UK convention, mostly because NFC charges by the room, and not by the person.

Hotel Selection

NFC takes place Clarion Hotel & Congress Malmö Live. It’s a huge hotel but not nearly big enough for the attendance levels. So there’s a bunch overflow hotels nearby! This is a great feature of the con, because the different hotels cater to all kinds of budgets and needs.

We stayed at the Comfort Hotel which is right by the con’s smaller Valhalla venue. This is where Artists Alley was this year and it was a great space to hang out as a quiet space away from the main hotel.

It’s BUSY

The main thing I found about NordicFuzzCon was that it was so much busier than any UK convention I’ve been to. The convention takes place in Malmo, Sweden. It’s their second biggest event after Eurovision!

The convention has an app to help you keep schedule, the events were very quick to get filled up though. Something that really affected my trip was how many events I wasn’t able to get in to at all.

There were a lot of delays, and we queued two hours for the opening ceremony! Ultimately we did manage to do a few fun events, I went to one of the raves, when you could get in to something it was a blast!

I spent a fair bit of time hanging out with artists in one of the break out quiet spaces, and got to chat and see a ton of fursuiters!

Convention City Vibes

A really cool thing about NordicFuzzCon was the way local businesses supported the event. There was a ton of discounts for surrounding restaurants, promotional burgers and excursions you could take which partnered with NFC.

Malmo otherwise feels like a small and quiet city, so when a big event of 4000+ furries rolls up the entire city feels like your own little community land. We saw furries everywhere we went outside of the hotel, bumped in to friends in restaurants and stumbled on the fursuit parade by accident.

Would I recommend NFC?

NordicFuzzCon is experiencing the same problems pretty much every established furry convention is having at the moment; supply and demand. The space is too small for the attendance, that said, they’re handling it better than most – with the addition of Valhalla and the overflow hotels it feels like there’s enough space for everyone.

I’d love to go again, I think it would be a lot better if there was more events, especially events outside of the main hotel, because getting in to most things was incredibly difficult, so more options did feel needed on that front.

I’m currently toying with the idea of alternating NFC and ScotiaCon each year, because they’re so close together it’s not really viable for me to do both, so hopefully I’ll see NFC again in 2026!
