Easiest USA Furry conventions to access from the UK

The UK has a really good furry scene, however with only two major events a year and very limited convention spaces, it sometimes feels like there’s more to explore further afield.

In this post I’m going to talk about three USA conventions which I think are easy enough to access from the UK.

Midwest FurFest

The world’s large furry convention. This is a really easy convention to access from the UK. You can take direct flights from London, or travel from Manchester via Dublin at a reasonably affordable cost.

Flights to Chicago tend to range around £450 – £650 depending on when you book.

The thing that makes MFF really accessible however, is its proximity to Chicago O’Hare International Airport. It’s really close to the airport you’ll be travelling in to and as a result there’s a TON of hotels nearby. Airport hotels tend to run in a more affordable range as well, but they do fill up fast with MFF in town.

I’d obviously recommend booking a few days either side of the convention to explore Chicago, but if you’re tight on your budget you can fully avoid heading in to the city if you wanted.

Megaplex

Florida is by far the easiest place to travel to in the USA from the UK (Disney tourism!) So Megaplex had to be on my list. It doesn’t benefit from incredible close proximity to the airport like MFF, but you’ll still have no trouble getting here.

Because Florida is such a hot tourism spot there are a lot of hotels available in the area, fortunately it also runs in September which is after the school holidays so travel isn’t horrendously expensive.

Flights to Florida from the UK tend to run around £400-£600, but if you can travel to other airports you can probably easily hit the lower end of the scale to get there.

Furry Weekend Atlanta

This is on my convention bucket list. FWA runs in May and whilst Atlanta isn’t one of the major tourism cities we get advertised, it is surprisingly accessible. London as always offers regular flights to Atlanta, but you can also fly directly from Manchester via Virgin Airlines on a Wednesday. Wednesday to Wednesday works well for a long weekend convention and if you’re looking for something a little less obvious in terms of travel then FWA would definitely be one to consider.

Flights to Atlanta tend to be around £600-£700 from Manchester, but can be a lot cheaper if you’re flying from London. There’s also several options for other airports if you travel via Dublin, which I honestly recommend because you can do customs in Dublin and head straight out when you reach America.

Always be careful when travelling to America, you need to remember your passports, ESTAs and be cautious about what you bring with you. A lot of furries like to travel with big bangs of free merchandise to giveaway and this might upset customs on the other side.

I have a guide for travelling on flights with your fursuit here if you’re interested! Safe travels!
